Sarah Barton-Hills
Multidisciplinary artist Sarah Barton-Hills has always been drawn to pattern, colour, and texture. As a girl, she could often be found sketching, painting, or fashioning creations out of fabric or clay, near her home in the Waitakeres.
Sarah’s career has spanned fashion and textiles, visual merchandising, interiors, and photography . Needless to say, her eye for detail, layout, and colour has been sharply honed. We can see this in Sarah’s paintings; her brush strokes are expressive, diving between thin glazes and the thicker application of paint. Her love for the material and the joy of process, evident in her work.
Sarah’s paintings are full of hope & joy for life. Her motifs capture a sense of connection; rituals of daily life that can anchor us and provide a sense of place, but that also hope to inspire; the memory of a special holiday, time spent in good company, a treasured moment with a loved one, a joyous memory of a time or a special place.
Now with her kids well on their way to ‘adulting’ Sarah has been able to return to her creative pasutes, happily splitting her time between painting and architectural photography. Sarah lives in Auckland and exhibits in both New Zealand and Australia.
