Phillip Edwards
Phillip was born in Wellington but most of his painting life has been spent in Auckland. He began under the guidance of his father, Henry Edwards, a professional artist/illustrator. He was involved in successful exhibitions in Auckland, including solo and joint shows with his father, as well as numerous group shows. In 1986 he was invited to be part of the New Zealand art in Washington exhibition.
In 1990 he moved to Nelson to explore different creative themes and broaden his experience, beginning some years of bookbinding and delving into three dimensional creative constructions combining painting, writing, binding and design. In 2008 he moved to Dunedin and decided to further develop his painting career.
In 2010 he had his first solo exhibition in the South Island – Stilled Life, at Gallery De Novo where most works were sold out by the end of the opening weekend. He has gone on to have three further annual exhibitions: Time, Space and Shadows (2011), Back Waters (2012) and Down to The Sea (2013) – all of which have also been very successful shows.
Phillip is a full time artist, producing incredible work with amazing technique, detail, quality and skill. His works have found homes in private collections throughout New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, U.S.A. and United Kingdom. It is with great pleasure that Gallery De Novo represents such a talented and professional artist – whose work has not only been admired by numerous patrons to the Gallery but well known New Zealand artists also.
