Mike Southern

Mike Southern lived and worked in Portland, Oregon from 1995 - 2009 then moved to the Christchurch and after a few return trips has now settled Canterbury.
Having received an MFA in printmaking from the University of Georgia 1995, Mike then began painting imagined landscapes on small wood panels. These loosely rendered images were done partially in response to the heavy process inherent in intaglio printmaking. Also this was his way of investigating imagined places instead of relying exclusively on a particular scene or set of conditions.
Mike’s pieces have been exhibited extensively throughout the United States and since 2010 also in New Zealand.
